John Cron
John W. Cron, age 94 of Celina Ohio passed away at 6:25 p.m. on Thursday May 19, 2016 at the Otterbein Home in St. Marys.
He was born on Dec. 20, 1921 in Celina, Ohio to the late Clarence J. & Lucille (Beiersdorfer) Cron. On Oct. 19, 1946 he married Rosecatherine Wimmers, who died on July 11, 2008.
Survivors include his sons & daughters-in-law Nicholas J. & Mary Ellen Cron of Toledo, William L. & Deborah Cron of Weatherford, TX, his daughters & sons-in-law Rebecca A. & David Cox of Kingsville, TX, Kathryn S. Grimes of Celina, Virginia L. & Kent Bryan of Celina, 15 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, a brother & sister-in-law David J. & Mary Jane Cron of Celina, his sister & brother-in-law Carol & Bob Lewis of Celina and his sister-in-law Vera Winkeljohn of Celina.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and his son-in-law Steve Grimes brother & sister-in-law Robert & Jean Cron, sisters & brother-in-law Betty & Larry Shearer and infant sister Judy Cron, In-laws Mark Wimmers, Bernadette Wimmers, Alford Wimmers, Victor & Delores Wimmers, Leo & Edna Wimmers, Mary & Fred Budde, Helen Wimmers and Don Winkeljohn .
John graduated from Immaculate Conception Catholic High School in Celina, Ohio with the Class of 1939. Then served his country in the United States Army During World War II from 1942 until 1946. John was one of the owners at Cron Tire & Supply. He was a life member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Celina and was a very active member, ushering Masses, singing in the Choir and volunteering at the I.C. School in the Cafeteria. John also held membership with of the Knights of Columbus Council #1800 in Celina for 70 years, the V.F. W. Post #5713, American Legion Post #210 and at The Fox's Den Golf Course. He was the Secretary of Merchants Bowling League for 40 years and he bowled from 1945 to 2014. His favorite past times were reading, watching basketball games especially the High School teams, fishing and bowling.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30a.m. on Monday May 23, 2016 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Celina, with Fr. Kenneth Schnipke C.PP.S. officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Marys Catholic Cemetery in Celina, with Military Honors.
Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 22, 2016 and from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Monday at the Lehman-Dzendzel Funeral Home in Celina. American Legion, V. F.W. and Knights of Columbus membership services will be held at 5 p.m.
