Howard Germann
Howard O. Germann, 85, St. Marys, Ohio died 1:03 a.m. Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at his residence surrounded by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren following an extended illness.
He was born September 28, 1930 in rural Rockford, Ohio to Joseph and Esther (Grote) Germann, who preceded him in death. On August 26, 1950, he married Marva Lee Felver, his loving wife of over 64 years, who died April 2, 2015.
He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law: Vickie (Dean) Fledderjohann, Lawrenceville, Georgia, Carol (James) Axe, Jr., Canton, Ohio, and Sandy (Craig) Moran, St. Marys; 2 sons and daughters-in-law: Ron (Anita) Germann, and Jason (Betsie) Germann, of St. Marys; by 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren with another due June 11, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The last of 14 children, Howard was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, Chad Hagens, 8 sisters: Agnes (Millard) Teboe, Mildred (Fred) Germann, Mabel (Ada) Prichard, Ireta (Harold) Grace, Helen (Fred) Searight, Norma "Tillie" (Charles) Zizelman, Alice (Clarence Gehle) (Lloyd) Smith, and Laura (William) Kahn; 5 brothers: Elmer Germann, Arthur Germann, Lester "Pete" Germann, Paul Germann, and Herbert Germann.
Howard retired from the Superior Tube Company in Wapakoneta, Ohio after more than 40 years of service. He was a member of the former First Presbyterian Church in St. Marys, where he served as Elder. He was a member of the Board of Agape, and enjoyed being of service to others. He was a devoted family man, seldom seen without his wife by his side. He was known for his kindness, friendly smile, and always eager to share a story or two from years gone by. His grandchildren were great joys in his life, He enjoyed sports, especially St. Marys Roughrider and Ohio State Football, and seldom missed a Friday night game over the past several decades.
The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Miller-Long & Folk Funeral Home, 314 W. High St. Chapel, in St. Marys.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home, with Pastor Tony Dirr officiating. Burial will follow in Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys.
