On Nov. 4, 1791, in the area now known as Fort Recovery, a confederation of Native Americans - Shawnee, Delaware, Miami, Ottawa, Ojibwa, Potawatomi, Wyandot and Iroquois - attained its greatest victory over the United States and handed the U.S. Army its greatest defeat, killing as many as 1,200 soldiers.
