Miriam Slonkosky
Miriam R. (Dapore) Slonkosky, age 85, Fort Loramie, Ohio, passed away of natural causes at her residence early Friday morning, June 10, 2016.
She was born October 28, 1930, in Versailles, Ohio, to the late Elmer and H. Beatrice (Lallemand) Dapore. On February 5, 1953, at St. Michael Catholic Church in Fort Loramie, Miriam married Jerome Slonkosky who preceded her in death on March 1, 1998.
Surviving are four children: Lynn & Ron Hoying of Fort Loramie, Susie & Jeff Nelson of Celina, Jack Slonkosky of Fort Loramie and James & Teresa Slonkosky of Versailles; nine grandchildren: Matt & Carrie Hoying, Kelly & Brian Kuhlman, Katie & Greg Rethman, Angie & Cory Sunderhaus, Christopher Nelson, Nicholas, Paige, Kimberly and Andrew Slonkosky; 13 great-grandchildren; one sister, Irene Boerger of Fort Loramie, sister-in-law, Marge Slonkosky of Minster, and dear friend of the family, Ralph Gaier of Fort Loramie.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Joseph and (infant) Jeffrey Slonkosky; brothers & sisters-in-law: Frank Boerger, John Slonkosky, and Peg & Millard "Press" Presser.
Miriam was a 1948 graduate of Holy Angels High School in Sidney. She continued studies at the Good Samaritan School of Nursing in Dayton and graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1951. She retired in 2007 from Richard Paulus M.D. Family Practice in Sidney where she had been employed 17 years. Previously she worked in the Wilson Memorial Hospital OB department.
After retiring, Miriam served as a volunteer nurse for the Compassionate Care Free Clinic in Sidney. She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church where she served as a Eucharistic Minister. She had also been a member of St. Ann's Ladies Sodality, Fort Loramie American Legion and Minster Eagles Ladies Auxiliaries', the Fort Loramie Racing Club and Fort Loramie Athletic Boosters.
Miriam was an avid sports fan; she never tired of attending Redskin basketball, baseball, football, or any sporting events. She loved her children and grandchildren with no less intensity, especially enjoying time at the lake cottage, traveling and shopping with friends and family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Tuesday, June 14, 2016, at St. Michael Catholic Church with Rev. Steven Shoup presiding. Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery.
Friends may call Monday 3:00 to 8:00 PM and Tuesday 9:00 to 10:00 AM at Gehret Funeral Home in Fort Loramie.
