Man gets 8 years in prison for robbery

CELINA - One man involved in the April armed robbery of the Dollar General Store in Rockford was sentenced to prison after changing his plea on Tuesday.
Edward Smith, 44, Fort Wayne, Ind., was sentenced to eight years in prison for aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony, moments after he had pleaded guilty in Mercer County Common Pleas Court.
He had originally pleaded not guilty to the charge on May 5.
Smith was involved in the April 18 robbery of the West Bridge Street store. John Smead, 49, New Haven, Ind., has also been charged in the incident. The two reportedly stole $600.
Smith was arrested April 26 by the U.S. Marshals Service in Fort Wayne, and Smead was arrested April 20 in New Haven, Ind. Both were extradited from the Allen County jail in Indiana to the Mercer County jail.  
Smead pleaded not guilty to a first-degree felony charge of aggravated robbery on May 5. He has a pretrial hearing scheduled for today according to court records.
