Donald Meier
Donald F. Meier, age 76, Yorkshire, passed away of natural causes early Tuesday morning, July 19, 2016, at Briarwood Village in Coldwater, Ohio.
He was born September 14, 1939, in Maria Stein, Ohio, to the late Roman and Clara (Piekenbrock) Meier. On November 11, 1961, at St. Louis Catholic Church in North Star, Donald married Linda L. (Cook) Meier who survives.
Also surviving are three children: Steve & Karen Meier of Sidney, Missy & Lavern Schemmel of Maria Stein and Deb & Pat Wehrman of Fort Loramie; six grandchildren: Nick & Lynn, Katie, and Brian Schemmel, Janelle & Mark Rismiller, Neil & Danielle and Amanda Wehrman; five great-grandchildren: William, Matthew and Katherine Schemmel, Blake and Ian Rismiller; four siblings: Richard & Pat Meier of Fort Recovery, Roger Meier of Maria Stein, Stan & Linda Meier of Maria Stein, Lucy & John Steinbrunner of Coldwater; brothers & sisters-in-law: Jim Platfoot of Homosassa, FL, Judy Cook of Fort Loramie, Cheryl & Marvin Wente of New Bremen, and mother-in-law, Patsy Cook of New Bremen.
He was preceded in death by three siblings, Alice Keefer, Charlene Platfoot and Cyril Meier; father-in-law, George Cook and a brother-in-law, Garold Cook.
Mr. Meier retired from the Minster Machine Company where he was a machinist and electrician and had been employed more than 30 years. He then worked part time at PHI Werkes in Celina. For many years, Don also worked in street maintenance for the Village of Yorkshire.
He was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church and the Men's Sodality. Don was always the handyman for the family. He also enjoyed playing cards, dancing and entertaining his grandchildren/great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Friday, July 22, 2016, at St. Nicholas Church in Osgood with Rev. David L. Zink presiding. Interment will follow at St. Martin's Cemetery.
Friends may call Thursday 3:00 to 8:00 PM and Friday 9:00 to 10:00 AM at Gehret Funeral Home in Fort Loramie.
Memorials may be made to Miami Valley Alzheimer's Association.
