Warren Schroer
Warren W. Schroer, age 76, of New Knoxville, formerly of New Bremen, died July 21, 2016, at 2:10 A.M. at The Gardens of Wapakoneta.
He was born August 15, 1939, to the late Clarence E. and Esther W. (Tostrick) Schroer in Van Buren Twp., Shelby County, Ohio.
Surviving are his siblings Betty Bubp of St. Marys, Lloyd Schroer of New Bremen, Kenneth (Barbara) Schroer of Bellefontaine, Richard (Nancy Eudy) Schroer of Oak Ridge, NC, and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother Dale in infancy, a brother Donald Schroer, a brother in law Geary Bubp, and a sister in law Janice Schroer.
Warren was a graduate of New Bremen High School, and spent time at the University of Nebraska taking a Veterinary Course. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force fueling airplanes in Alaska for four years.
He was engaged in the livestock and agriculture industry his whole life. He worked for a time for Brookside Laboratories in New Knoxville, and later for Modern Associates – Top Acres Brown Swiss in St. Paris, Ohio, where he traveled the country attending livestock sales to select and finance the purchase of cattle herds. He even spent time through the St. Marys Rotary Club, in David, Panama, as a nutritional advisor for the exporting of cattle. Over the years Warren won numerous awards for his work including the All-American Brown Swiss Bull Calf Award, and the All-American Herdsman Award at the World Dairy Expo in Madison, WI.
Warren enjoyed listening to music and reading, especially the Wall Street Journal. He could often be found having coffee at the Main Street Station or the Village Market in New Knoxville, or lending a helping hand to a friend or neighbor.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at the Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home in New Bremen, with the Rev. Becky Erb Strang officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Pilger Ruhe Cemetery in New Knoxville.
Calling hours will be held at the Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home on Monday, August 1, 2016 from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M., and one hour prior to the services on Tuesday.
