Virginia Thobe
Virginia M. "Ginny" Thobe age 86 of Maria Stein, Ohio passed away at 5:05 AM Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at Van Wert Hospice Inpatient Unit.
She was born on August 9, 1930 in Ft. Loramie, Ohio to the late Al & Hilda (Albers) Winner. On June 1, 1950 she married Harold "Whitey" Thobe in St. John Church, Maria Stein. He preceded her in death on November 2, 1996.
She is survived by children: Vivian Schmitt, Ft. Recovery, Cindy & Randy Grapner, Celina, Terry & Sue Thobe, Chickasaw, Patrick "PJ" & Carla Thobe, Maria Stein, Joyce & Pete Hierholzer, Celina, Glen & Ann Thobe, Montezuma, Gregg & Lisa Thobe, New Bremen, Chris Thobe, Celina, 21 grandchildren & 6 great grandchildren, brothers & sisters, Jerry & Marilyn Winner, Ft. Loramie, Marlene & Robert Sanders, Hudson, Ohio, Carol & Sam Morgan, Dayton, in-laws: Alice Varno, Sidney, Mary Thobe, Maria Stein, Delbert & Velma Thobe, Maria Stein, Mary Mescher, Coldwater, Martha & Tom Warner, New Bremen, Donald & Patty Thobe, Maria Stein, Rolland & Shirley Thobe, Maria Stein, Margie & David Moeller, Cassella, David & Jean Thobe, Maria Stein, Lois & Jay Hogenkamp, Carthagena, Larry Thobe, St. Marys.
She was preceded in death by son Michael Thobe, son-in-law David S. Schmitt, daughter-in-law Marilyn Thobe, grandsons, Robert Hierholzer and Nathan Thobe, brother and sisters, Orville & Esther Winner, JoAnn & Kenneth Tragesser, Rosemary & Joseph Wood, in-laws, Joseph Dorsten, Virgil & Mary Thobe, Werner Thobe, Elton & Norma Thobe, Marilyn & Dale Miller, Leonard Varno, John Mescher, Linda Thobe.
She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Maria Stein, the Ladies Sodality of the Church and a greeter. She volunteered at the church, the Shrine of the Holy Relics and the Maria Stein Retreat Center, where she participated with "Piecemakers" who did sewing and craftwork for fundraisers.
She was employed as a secretary at Wooden Shoe Brewing Company prior to marriage and then as a bookkeeper for her husband's business Thobe Oil.
She was an avid card player and belonged to Euchre, Bridge, Pinochle and Poker clubs for many years.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, September 3, 2016 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Maria Stein, Ohio with Rev. Gene Schnipke celebrant. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster on Friday, September 2 from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and on Saturday from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM.
