Dayton man on trial for burglaries

CELINA - A Dayton man is on trial in Mercer County Common Pleas Court, facing charges related to several burglaries resulting in more than $107,200 in stolen goods.
John William Coile Jr., 50, faces 36 charges related to a string of burglaries dating from Oct. 22, 2014, to May 17, 2015. A jury trial began Monday morning and is scheduled to continue through Friday.
Coile reportedly was arrested by Mercer County Sheriff's deputies on May 17, 2015, after the burglary at TJ's Grocerette in Rockford. He is being held in the Mercer County jail.
Court documents specify that cartons of cigarettes, vapor pens and vapor juice refills with a total value of about $10,039 were taken from TJ's. Damages and other costs associated with the incident reportedly totaled about $2,185.
According to Rockford Police Chief Paul May, Coile and two other men forced their way into the Rockford grocery store at 11:32 p.m., after the business had closed. No weapons were reported in the sheriff's report.
Coile was charged with a fifth-degree felony count of breaking and entering, a fourth-degree felony count of theft and a fifth-degree felony count of possession of criminal tools, according to court records.
Coile is allegedly involved in the following thefts of property according to stipulations of fact documents filed in court.
• On or about May 6, 2015, items including chainsaws, leaf blowers, hedge trimmers and generators worth about $9,628 were taken from Small Engine Repair in New Carlisle, and other damages totaled about $1,900, according to court documents. Coile faces a fifth-degree felony count of possession of criminal tools, a fifth-degree felony count of breaking and entering and a fourth-degree felony count of theft, according to court records.
• On or about May 5, 2015, items including cigarettes and smokeless tobacco valued at about $9,235 were stolen from Murphy Gas U.S.A. in Bellefontaine. Coile faces a fifth-degree felony count of possession of criminal tools, a fifth-degree felony count of breaking and entering and a fourth-degree felony count of theft, according to court records.
• On or about May 1, 2015, items including cigarettes and smokeless tobacco valued at about $8,763 were stolen from Chillicothe Murphy Gas U.S.A. Coile faces a fifth-degree felony count of possession of criminal tools, a fifth-degree felony count of breaking and entering and a fourth-degree felony count of theft, according to court records.
• On or about April 26, 2015, an ATM machine containing about $10,560 in cash was taken from a Sunoco gas station in St. Paris. Coile faces a fifth-degree felony count of possession of criminal tools, a fifth-degree felony count of breaking and entering, a fourth-degree felony count of safecracking and a fourth-degree felony count of theft, according to court records.
• On or about April 24, 2015, items including cigarettes valued at about $4,300 were stolen from the Zuma Thru in Montezuma. Coile faces a fifth-degree felony count of possession of criminal tools, a fifth-degree felony count of breaking and entering and a fifth-degree felony count of theft, according to court records.
• On or about April 18, 2015, items including cigarettes valued at about $19,652 were taken from West Chester Food Mart in West Chester. Coile faces a fifth-degree felony count of possession of criminal tools, a fifth-degree felony count of breaking and entering and a fourth-degree felony count of theft, according to court records.
• On or about March, 31, 2015, items including chainsaws and weed trimmers with a value of about $7,919 were taken from Bane-Welker Equipment in Wilmington. Coile faces a fifth-degree felony count of breaking and entering and a fourth-degree felony count of theft, according to court records.
• On or about March 26, 2015, items including cigarettes valued at about $10,921 were taken from Murphy Gas U.S.A. in Wilmington. Coile faces a fifth-degree felony count of possession of criminal tools, a fifth-degree felony count of breaking and entering and a fourth-degree felony count of theft, according to court records.
• On or about March 18, 2015, items including cigarettes valued at about $5,791 were taken from Murphy Gas U.S.A. in Moraine. Coile faces a fifth-degree felony count of possession of criminal tools, a fifth-degree felony count of breaking and entering and a fifth-degree felony count of theft, according to court records.
• On or about March 16, 2015, items including various types and amounts of drugs of abuse or dangerous drugs were taken from Marks Pharmacy in West Chester. Coile faces a fifth-degree felony count of possession of criminal tools, a fifth-degree felony count of breaking and entering and a fourth-degree felony count of theft, according to court records.
• On or about Oct. 22, 1014, items including tires and wheels taken from a private vehicle near Tipp City were valued at about $2,470. Coile faces a fifth-degree felony count of breaking and entering, a fifth-degree felony count of theft and a second-degree felony count of engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity, according to court records.
He reportedly pleaded not guilty to all counts during a July 1, 2015, arraignment.
Also arrested by deputies on May 17, 2015, were Kenneth Longstreath, and his uncle, Danny Lee Longstreath, both also from Dayton.
An unidentified caller reportedly followed one of the vehicles after the Rockford break-in and notified authorities.
The Longstreaths were arrested during a traffic stop in the 4900 block of state Route 707, and Coile was arrested during a stop at the intersection of U.S. 127 and Morrow Road.
Kenneth Longstreath re-portedly pleaded not guilty to charges during an arraignment on July 1, and Danny Lee Longstreath pleaded not guilty to charges during an arraignment on July 8. Both men have pretrials scheduled for later this month, according to court records.
Coile also was involved in a March 2011 theft at Walmart in Celina. He was sentenced in October 2011 for 36 months in prison for one fifth-degree felony count of theft and a second-degree felony count of engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity.
