Edwin Prenger
Edwin F. Prenger, age 92, of Coldwater, died on Monday, November 28, 2016 at his home.
He was born May 11, 1924 in Maria Stein to the late Henry & Clara (Schlarman) Prenger. On May 3, 1952 he married Mildred E. (Kuess) Prenger, who died April 4, 2013.
He is survived by four children, Nicholas Prenger of St. Henry, Kenneth & Vickie Prenger of Celina, Daniel & Joyce Prenger of St. Henry and Debra & Randy Rindler of Tipp City, eleven grandchildren, Bill, Kelsey, Jason, Kyle, Brian & Stacy, Eric & Kerry, Mark & Erin Prenger, Kimberly & Kyle O'Harra, Michelle, Lyndsey, and Matthew Rindler, and one great grandchild, Joellen Prenger; siblings, Werner Prenger of St. Marys, Mary Ann Lefeld of St. Henry, Ralph & Ruth Ann Prenger of Botkins, Alma Meyer of Ft. Loramie, Cletus & Rosann Prenger of Minster and Therese & Roger Schmidt of McCartyville; and in-laws, Mildred D. Prenger of Coldwater, Elmer Kuess of Celina, Dolores Muhlenkamp of Portland, Indiana, Irene & Paul Heckman of Dalhart, Texas, Gladys Kuess of Coldwater, and Esther Kuess of Chickasaw.
He was also preceded in death by two daughters-in-law, Mary Kay Prenger and Joan Prenger, two grandchildren, Christopher Prenger and Karla Prenger, siblings, Alvina & Vernon Ahrens, Norbert & Angela Prenger, Leonard Prenger, Viola & Raymond Schmidt, Delores & Louis Meyer, and in-laws: Martin Lefeld, Herman Meyer, Dorothy & Clarence Tuente, Ernest Kuess, Lavern Kuess, Irma Kuess, and Alvin Muhlenkamp.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Coldwater, the Men's Holy Name Society of the church. He retired from the former New Idea plant in Coldwater after 44 years.
Ed was a veteran of World War II, where he served with the 78th Infantry Division in Germany. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and was decorated with the European African Theater Ribbon with three Battle Stars, a Purple Heart, the Victory Medal, and the Army of Occupation Medal Germany.
Ed was a member of the Knights of St. John's, Maria Stein, the Coldwater American Legion, and the Mercer County D.A.V.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Coldwater. Burial with Military Rites will follow in St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Coldwater.
Friends may call on Friday from 2 to 8 PM and on Saturday from 9 to 10 AM at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home in Coldwater.
