Carl Bachelor
Carl E. "Rick" Bachelor, age 71 of Celina, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at the Hospice Care Center in Greenville, Ohio.
He was born on July 24, 1945 in Dayton, Ohio to the late William C. and Bengaline (Leever) Bachelor. On August 6, 1983, he married Jeanette Post, who lives at their home in Celina.
Also surviving are his three children, Jason Dorsten of Celina, Erin (Chad) Luebke of Las Vegas, and Evin Bachelor of Celina; one granddaughter, Julianna Luebke; his brother, Steven (Terri) Bachelor of Vandalia; his sister, Toni (Frank) Goodwin of Dayton; and his mother-in-law, Ruth Williams of Centerville. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sherrill A. Williams; his fathers-in-law, DeAlt Williams and Anthony Post; and his mother-in-law, Mary Post.
Rick was a proud member of the 1963 graduating class of Northridge High School, where he served as Class President and excelled at a number of sports. He received a Political Science degree and played football at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, or as Rick would call it, the "Harvard of the Midwest." He then pursued graduate studies at the University of Tennessee.
From 1968 to 1971, he taught history and coached football and basketball at Dixie High School in New Lebanon. He then served as the Assistant Director for the Montgomery County Recreation Department in Dayton until 1979.
After moving to Celina, he served as the Office and General Manager for the John W. Karch Stone Company, and then worked in sales and public/customer relations at Stoneco, Inc.
In 1992, he was elected to the Celina City Council, a post he held until serving as the city's Safety Service Director from 2009 to 2011. One of Rick's favorite jobs was taking tickets at Celina football and basketball games, where no one was a stranger.
Rick was very active in a number of community organizations, including the Celina/Mercer County Chamber of Commerce, the Lake Development Corporation. He also served as Treasurer for the Ohio Processed Limestone Association and as a member of the Finance Committee of his church, St. Paul's United Methodist in Celina, where he taught Sunday School for a number of years.
Rick loved the Celina Bulldogs, the Cincinnati Reds, the Cleveland Browns, and the Ohio State Buckeyes. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed playing softball. His favorite pastimes were taking family trips, reading, and winning at video poker.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 12, 2016 at St. Paul's (Grand Lake) United Methodist Church in Celina, with Rev. Matt Reynolds officiating. Private burial will be held at Arlington Cemetery in Brookville.
Friends may call from 2:00-6:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Lehman-Dzendzel Funeral Home in Celina and from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Monday at the church.
