Roger Wilson
Roger Lee Wilson, age 93 of Celina, Ohio passed away at 10:15 p.m. on Monday March 13, 2017 at the Otterbein Home in St. Marys.
He was born on July 8, 1923 in Celina, Ohio to the late Stephen R. and Blanche (Fast) Wilson. On June 26, 1975 he married Ruthilene Wert, who survives, living in Celina.
Also surviving are his children Steven & Denise Wilson of Durham, N.C. and Debbie and Ron Green of Celina, step daughters Nichole Hawkins of Atlanta, GA, Susan Evans of Bellefontaine, Kim Dudgeon of Celina, 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Jean Wilson, his sister Mary Evelyn and Hugo Smelser and a step son-in-law Gerald Hawkins.
Roger graduated from Celina High School in 1942. He then served his country in the United States Army during World War II.
He was a member of: The Grand Lake United Methodist Church in Celina, a Life Member of the Celina American Legion Post #210, a Life Member of the Celina V.F.W. Post #5713, Past Master of the Celina Masonic Lodge #241 F & AM, Past President of the Aug-Mer Shrine Club, 32nd Degree Mason and Shriner, Past Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Mercer Savings Bank and the original owner of the Wilson Shoe Stores. Roger served as Grand Marshal of the Lake Festival Parade in 2010 and belonged to the Mercer County Elks.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday March 17, 2017 at the Lehman-Dzendzel Funeral Home in Celina, with Rev. Matt Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow in the Swamp College Cemetery in Celina, with Military Honors.
A memorial gathering will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral Home, American Legion and V.F.W. membership services will be held at 7 p.m. and Masonic Lodge will hold a membership service at 8 p.m. on Thursday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Grand Lake United Methodist Church or State of the Heart Hospice.
