William Jackson
William S. "Bill" Jackson, age 90, of Coldwater, formerly of New Bremen, died on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at 4:26 A.M. at the Briarwood Village of Coldwater, Ohio, where he had resided since 2009.
He was born on September 4, 1926 in Montpelier, Indiana, the son of the late William R. and Ilah (Belle) Jackson. On July 25, 1947, he married Jane Johnsonbaugh, in Hartford City, Indiana, and she died on December 20, 2009.
Surviving are daughters and son-in-laws Mariann (Ray) Sanders of New Bremen, Ohio, Teresa (Michael) Williman of Van Wert, Ohio, and Charles Ayers of Montezuma, Ohio. Also surviving are grandchildren Bret (Kimberly) Ayers of Coldwater, Kara Ayers of Montezuma, Michael (Jennifer) Kelly of Rocky Point, NC, Nicole (Doug) Edwards of Van Wert, Heather (Troy) Tribolet of Van Wert, Samuel (Kirti) Sanders of Centerville, Joseph Sanders of Lima. Great-Grandchildren include Emma, Paige, Mason, and Lauren Ayers of Coldwater, Jayde (Kevin) Yeung of Cincinnati, Taylor Miller of Indianapolis, Justin Conner of Cincinnati, Addy Edwards of Van Wert, and Alana Sanders of Wapakoneta. Also surviving is a step-brother Jack (Sally) Smith of Ft. Wayne, a step-sister Vonona Spaulding of Montpelier, and a sister-in-law Janice Jackson of Hartford City.
Along with his parents and wife, Bill was preceded in death by a daughter Rosamond Ayers on April 15, 2007, and his brothers Raymond Jackson and Walter "Sonny" Jackson.
Bill was a 1944 graduate of Montpelier High School. He proudly served his country during World War II in the Philippines, and was amongst the first troops who went into Japan. After the war, he attended watchmaker school under the G.I. Bill. He later went on to own and operate the former Jacksons Jewelers in New Bremen for 40 years.
He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in New Bremen, a member of the American Legion Post 241 of New Bremen, and a life member of the New Bremen Historic Association. Bill loved to travel, and together with his wife, they visited every state in the continental United States.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, April 24, 2017 at 11:30 A.M. at St. Paul United Church of Christ in New Bremen, with the Rev. Becky Erb Strang officiating. Inurnment will follow in the German Protestant Cemetery of New Bremen.
Calling Hours will be held prior to the service on Monday, April 24, 2017, from 10:00 until 11:30 A.M. at the church.
The family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Friends of the New Bremen Library, or the Library of Briarwood Village in Coldwater.
