Gerald Gray
Gerald "Bud" Gray, age 95 of Celina, Ohio passed away on Tuesday April 25, 2017 at the Mercer County Community Hospital in Coldwater.
He was born on March 22, 1922 in Celina, Ohio to the late Ralph E. & Irene S. (Wehrkamp) Gray. On May 6, 1950 he married Dorothy E. Gremaux, who died March 30, 2011.
Survivors include his children; Gary & Kate Gray of Boston, MA, Kathy & David Mathys of Harlan, IN, Carolyn & Hiram Davies of Atlanta, GA, Sharon & Mark Kebe of Cincinnati, Linda & Philip Kremer of Tipp City, eight grandchildren Kyle Davies, Jake Davies, Danielle Mathys, Paige Kebe, Jenna Kremer, Emma Kremer, Sophia Kremer and Jackson Kremer, two great grandchildren, and his brother and sister-in-law Thomas & Esther Gray of Celina.
He was preceded in death by his sister Gladys Gray.
Bud was a life member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Celina. He graduated from the Immaculate Conception Catholic High School in 1940, then served his country in the United States Army during World War II.
Bud managed the Standard Oil Service Station in Celina for many years and then worked at Mersman Brothers Furniture in Celina until he retired. To stay active, he became the caretaker of the St. Marys Catholic Cemetery in Celina.
Bud enjoyed all athletics; during his youth he played baseball and basketball, later he umpired and managed the slow pitch softball league at Mercelina Park. He loved to fish, golf (making a hole in one at age 85), and bowl (rolling a perfect game at 84 and becoming a member of the 300 Club). He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #1800 where he played cards weekly.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday April 29, 2017 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Celina, with Fr. Kenneth G. Alt C.PP.S. officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Marys Catholic cemetery in Celina, with Military Honors.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Friday April 28, 2017 and before 9:30 a.m. on Saturday morning at the Lehman-Dzendzel Funeral home in Celina. V.F.W. membership services will be held at 7:00 p.m. and the Knights of Columbus membership service will be held at 8 p.m. on Friday.
Memorial contributions may be made to State of the Heart Hospice or the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Celina.
