Beverly Barhorst
Beverly J. (Schmieder) Barhorst, Age 85, formerly of Minster, passed away of natural causes Thursday afternoon, June 1, 2017, at the Heritage Manor Nursing Center in Minster, Ohio.
She was born October 4, 1931, in Minster, Ohio, to the late Julius and Frances (Gerwels) Schmieder. On July 23, 1955, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Minster, Beverly married "Butch" Virgil B. Barhorst who preceded her in death on February 21, 2006.
Surviving are four children: Kevin & Kathy Barhorst of Fort Loramie, Karen & William Watercutter of Sidney, Gregory & Carol Barhorst of Fort Loramie and Kris & Chris Hickerson of Fort Loramie; 17 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren; sisters & brothers-in-law: Lenore Otte of Maria Stein, Tom & Bernice Barhorst of Anna, Mary O'Halloran of Dayton, Carol & Leroy Lochtefeld of Sidney, Barb & Larry Francis of Russia, Ed & Alice Barhorst of Sidney and Jane & Vernon Monnin of Covington.
She was preceded in death by six siblings: June & "Pete" Carl Kuening, Kermit & Katherine Schmieder, Phyllis & Clifford Frericks, and infants Clyde, Mary and Jane Schmieder; brothers & sisters-in-law, Albert Otte, Ruth & Alvin Jutte, Leonard Barhorst, and William O'Halloran.
Mrs. Barhorst was a 1949 graduate of Minster High School. She had been a dedicated homemaker and also kept the books for the former V.B. Barhorst Excavating Co. Years ago she was the book-keeper for the former Westerheide Garage & Auto Sales Co. She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and St. Ann's Ladies Sodality. Beverly had been active in team sports most of her life. She played tennis with the Fort Loramie women's league. She also enjoyed Wednesday night bowling with the Jets, and years ago played fast pitch softball with the Minster Mud Hens.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Monday, June 5, 2017, at St. Michael Church in Fort Loramie with Rev. Steven Shoup presiding. Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery.
Friends may call Sunday 2:00 to 7:00 PM and Monday 9:00 to 10:00 AM at Gehret Funeral Home in Fort Loramie. Memorials may be made to Shelby County Relay for Life or Alzheimer's Association-Miami Valley Chapter.
