Rev. Glen W. Perin
Rev. Glen W. Perin, age 89, passed away of natural causes late Wednesday evening, July 5, 2017, at St. Charles Senior Living Community in Carthagena, Ohio. He had been a resident there nearly four years and previously lived in West Milton for several years since retiring.
He was born January 15, 1928, in Newport, Ohio, to the late John and Mary (Moorman) Perin.
Surviving are one sister, Rosalie DeLoye of Yorkshire and a sister-in-law, Vee Presas of Fort Loramie along with numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by five siblings: Carl & Esther Perin, Virginia & Larry Forthofer, Marcel "Mike" Perin, Eileen & Ralph Boerger, Paul Perin and brothers-in-law, Robert "Bob" DeLoye and Art Presas.
Father Perin was ordained as a Diocesan Priest on May 30, 1953, at St. Monica Cathedral in Cincinnati by Archbishop Karl J. Alter. Soon there-after he celebrated his first Mass at his home parish of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Newport, Ohio. Father Glen completed preparatory studies at St. Gregory Seminary in Cincinnati and continued on to study theology at Mount St. Mary's Seminary of the West in Norwood.
Father Perin received his first assignment on June 22, 1953, as assistant pastor at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Cincinnati. On June 17, 1954, he was appointed assistant pastor at St. Raphael Church in Springfield. Then on June 20, 1958, he was appointed part-time teacher at Springfield Catholic High School while continuing his assignment at St. Raphael Church. On August 29, 1963, he was appointed assistant pastor at Nativity Church in Cincinnati and part-time teacher at Regina High School where he remained teaching until June 1966. On June 16, 1967, he was appointed assistant pastor at St. Jude Church in Cincinnati and in August of that year was appointed part-time teacher of Religion at Seton High School. On June 21, 1968, he was relieved of his assignment at St. Jude Church to make necessary preparations for missionary work in South America and asked to provide weekend help during the summer at St. Louis Church in Cincinnati. In August 1968, Father Perin left for mission work in Brazil, South America and continued his work there for eight years. On June 15, 1976, he was appointed associate pro-tem at St. Albert the Great Church in Dayton. Father Perin was soon to be appointed Pastor of Holy Trinity Church in Coldwater on August 28, 1976. During that time, he was appointed Dean of St. Marys Deanery from July 1, 1983-December 31, 1986. On August 24, 1987, he was appointed Pastor of Holy Angels Church in Sidney and re-appointed to another six-year term on August 24, 1993. Father Perin retired on July 6, 1999. Over the years, Father Glen had been Knights of Columbus chaplain at several local posts. In his leisure Glen enjoyed traveling and being outdoors; he particularly enjoyed fishing, golf and gardening.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Tuesday, July 11, 2017, at Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Newport with Celebrant Most Reverend Joseph R. Binzer and Homilist Reverend David L. Zink. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Family and friends may call from 8:30 AM to 10:00 AM at the church. The Reception of the Body ritual will begin at 8:30 AM with Rev. Steven Shoup presiding. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Brazil Missions or charity of choice.
