Kenneth Krauss
Kenneth E. Krauss, 94, Saint Marys, died 8:47 P.M. Saturday, January 6, 2018, at Otterbein Saint Marys Retirement Community.
He was born July 14, 1923, in Saint Marys, the son of Elmer and Louetta (Schroer) Krauss. He married Nellie Glass on September 11, 1943, at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Saint Marys; she survives at the residence.
He is also survived by his two children: Kenneth (Cheryl) Krauss of Saint Marys; Connie Dennings and Bill Meiring of New Bremen. He is survived by his five grandchildren: Christine (Nick) Barlage; Michelle Kroeger; Dawn Leugers; Terry (Melinda) Krauss; Andrew (Elizabeth) Dennings. He is survived by his great-grandchildren: Stacy (Larry) Herzog; Jeremy Fark; Cody (Erin) Leugers; Casey Leugers; Adam (Jenna) Kroeger; Wesley Kroeger; Joshua Kroeger; Rachel Kroeger; Kassandra Krauss; Sydney Goens; Shanda Krauss; Branxton Krauss; Drew Dennings; Zane Dennings; Reese Dennings; Calahan Dennings.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by his siblings Martha Kendall and Donald Krauss.
Ken was a 1941 graduate of Saint Marys Memorial High School. He proudly served in the US Army during WWII, during which he was a gunner. He was a Corporal in the 254th Field Artillery Battalion, and he fought in the Battle of the Bulge.
He retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Saint Marys, where he had been a press operator.
He was a life member of American Legion Post 323 and VFW Post 9289 in Saint Marys. He enjoyed the Vets to Vets meetings at the Auglaize County Council on Aging, and he was a longtime member of the Tri Squares Dance Club. He enjoyed woodworking and spending his winters in Florida after retirement. He was one of the founders of the Boy Scouts of America in Saint Marys; he loved to read and was an avid golfer. He was a member of Saint Paul's United Church of Christ in Saint Marys.
Funeral rites will be held 10:30 A.M. Thursday, January 11, 2018, at Saint Paul's United Church of Christ in Saint Marys, the Reverend Dr. Ed Bray, officiant. Burial, with full military honors, will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4-7 P.M. Wednesday at the Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, Saint Marys, where memorial gifts may be given to the Saint Paul's Church Endowment Fund.
