Stanley Kuenning
Stanley A. Kuenning age 89 of New Bremen, died on Monday, February 5, 2018, at 6:45 A.M. at the Joint Twp. District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys.
He was born on April 11, 1928, north of New Bremen, the son of the late Allen W. and Frances (Ruese) Kuenning. On October 2, 1948 he married Dona Mae M. Speckman who preceded him in death on February 16, 2015.
Surviving are their sons and daughter-in-laws, Tim & Marilyn Kuenning and Scott & Linda Kuenning, both of New Bremen, seven grandsons and their wives; Mack & Jill, Luke & Amanda, Greg & Heather, Lee & Kendra, Andrew & Lindsey, Rob & Jackie, and Jeffery & Kelsey, sixteen great-grandchildren Kole, Reese, Nolan, Halle, Reid, Josie, Jack, Sam, Summer, Gwen, Addison, Spencer, Julia, Mason, Becky, and Anna, and his siblings Frank & Jeanne Kuenning of New Bremen and JoAlice & Jim Nieter of Columbus, Ohio.
Stan was a member of the St. Paul United Church of Christ in New Bremen. He was a 1946 graduate of New Bremen High School, where he was the President of his class. He proudly served our country for six years as member of the Ohio National Guard where he had reached the rank of Master Sergeant.
He was a member of the New Bremen American Legion Post 241, and also served his community for 26 years on the New Bremen German Twp. Fire Department. He was a charter member of the New Bremen Rod & Gun Club, as well as the New Bremen New Knoxville Rotary Club, and was a member of the former Lions Club, the Home Benefit Association, and the Woodman of the World, and served on the board of directors for the First National Bank of New Bremen.
He loved basketball, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and boating on the lake. Stan was also one of New Bremen's greatest historians.
"Stan the Hardware Man" owned and operated the Western Ohio True Value Hardware store in New Bremen. He was involved in the hardware business for 78 years, after starting out at the age of 11 working in the very hardware store in New Bremen that he would later go on to own.
His passion for the hardware store, and the love for his customers was his life. Above all else, Stan will be remembered as a devoted husband, a hardworking father, and for his love of his grandsons and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 8, 2018 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Paul United Church of Christ with the Rev. Becky Erb Strang officiating. Interment will follow in the German Protestant Cemetery of New Bremen.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 from 2:00 until 8:00 PM at the Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home in New Bremen, and one hour prior to the services at the church on Thursday.
