MENDON - Fire gutted a mobile home, displacing a resident, on Deep Cut Road east of Coil Road on Thursday afternoon.
The fire started in the north wall of the residence, according to Mendon Fire Chief Darrell Etgen, but the exact cause of the blaze remains under investigation. Etgen estimated the damage at between $7,500 and $8,000.
Etgen said the resident of the trailer was in the yard when he noticed flames coming from the residence. He was uninjured.
About six trucks carrying about 20 firefighters responded to the blaze. The call came in at about 3:30 p.m., and the blaze was under control by 3:48 p.m., Etgen said. Crews remained at the scene for about three hours.
American Red Cross personnel were called in to assist the resident.
Mendon fire crews were aided by firefighters from Spencerville and Rockford. Mercer County EMS also responded to the scene.
