Geraldine Spires
Geraldine "Jerry" Mae Spires, age 87 of Columbus, OH died April 27th, 2018 at Abbington of Pickerington.
Jerry was born in Columbus on October 6th, 1930, the daughter of Ernest and May (Parks) Heyder.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husbands, Jay Stratton and Lyle Spires; and brother, Bert Heyder.
Jerry is survived by her children, Trudy Stratton (Randy Miller) and Carol Davis (Jim); grandchildren, Jessi Poppe, Joseph Mustard (Natalie), Christopher Mustard (Lisa) and Jill Mustard; step-grandchildren, Brian Davis (Martha), Jennifer Hayes (Matt) and Matt Davis (Kate); great grandchildren, Piper, Jaxson, Jordan, Riley, Abel, Noah, Anna, Autumn, Brennan and Kamdyn; and faithful companion, Daisy!
Jerry is a graduate of West High School-Columbus and attended Wright State University-Lake Campus. Among her many achievements, she particularly enjoyed many years as reading tutor at East Elementary School in Celina, OH, teaching Bethel Bible Series at St. John Lutheran Church and attaining the honor of President of Red Hat Club-Gahanna, OH.
She will fondly be remembered for her sense of humor, her beautiful sparkling eyes, wonderful cooking and gardening skills, and her passion for euchre, bingo and reading.
Over the years she kept in touch with many of her friends and loved ones by writing letters. She enjoyed the outdoors and spent a great deal of time walking in parks, camping and sitting on her front porch - where throughout the years she would sing songs from her past and reminisce about the good times with her mother and father.
Her greatest passion, of course, was her family. She was so happy to be able to know her great grandchildren. She will be missed deeply!
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
The family would like to personally thank the staff at the Abbington and Ohio Living Hospice, as well as her faith family at Christ Lutheran Church-Bexley.
Donations in Jerry's memory can be directed to the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium supporting the elephants.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to Schoedinger Midtown Chapel. To share a fond memory or condolence, please visit www.schoedinger.com.
