Matilda Elking
Matilda E. Elking, age 95, of Chickasaw, died on Friday, May 11, 2018 at Briarwood Village in Coldwater.
She was born October 30, 1922 in Chickasaw, to the late John B. & Anna M. (Bruns) Knapke. On June 7, 1947 she married Roman J. Elking and he died June 16, 1974.
She is survived by children: Patricia & Victor Klosterman of Chickasaw, Gerald & Sandra Elking of Henderson, NC, Teresa & Ronald Hoying of Cincinnati, Susan & J. Wayne Richmond of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL and William & Donna Elking of Maria Stein; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; siblings and in-laws: Mary Ann Klosterman of Montezuma, Florentine Moeller of Chickasaw, Robert & Virginia Knapke of Minster, Rita Elking of New Bremen, Marie Riethman of McCartyville and Charles & Lillian Elking of Hillsboro.
She is also preceded in death by siblings and in-laws: Armella & Walter Rawers, Olive & Clem Miller, Norbert & Katherine Knapke, Leo & Rita Knapke, Agnes & Cletus Hemmelgarn, Hilda & Linus Brunswick, Paul Klosterman, Arthur Moeller, Paul Knapke, Edna & Leonard Heitkamp, Louis Elking, Maurice & Eleanor Elking, Ed & Marita Elking and Bernard Riethman.
Tillie graduated from Minster High School in 1941 and started working at Western Union in Dayton, then Marion Local School cafeteria and finally Crown Control in New Bremen.
She was a member of Precious Blood Church in Chickasaw, the ladies sodality of the church, caring ministry, and the resurrection choir. She was also a member of the Chickasaw Ladies Auxiliary of the V.F.W., the Adoration Guild and volunteered at the spiritual center.
Tillie enjoyed crocheting, playing cards, following the Marion Local Flyers and the Cincinnati Reds
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at Precious Blood Church in Chickasaw.
Friends may call on Wednesday from 2 to 8 PM and on Thursday from 9 to 10 AM at Hogenkamp Funeral Home in Coldwater.
Memorials may be made to the Center for Neurological Development or the Maria Stein Shrine.
