William Brown
William W. Brown died on June 26, 2017.
He was born on June 22, 1923, in Edgewater Park, Celina, to William J. and Bess Jenkins Brown.
Beloved husband of Jean of 65 year's, cherished father of Sandy and Pat, loving Grandfather of Tisha, Shauna and Chad, proud Great Grandfather of Seth and Adam, loving brother of Eileen, favorite uncle of Bill Cole and grateful father-in-law of Jonny Walker.
Bill was an active and respected "Celinian" serving on the City Council, member of the Lions Club, Charter Member of The Mercer County Elks Club, 9th VFW Post 5713 Commander and lifetime member.
Upon his father's death he took ownership of the Celina Auto Company which was lost in the fire of 1953. He later built Motel Celina on the property which he and Jean owned for 30 years.
Other than his family, Bill's most proud accomplishment was his Army role in WWII, 1942-1945...he was selected to serve in the 23rd Headquarters Special Troops; The Ghost Army; Team A-1st Half Track; 1st Platoon; 3132 Signal Service Company; Sonic Division. He appeared and was quoted in the book Secret Soldiers by Philip Gerard.
Bill was honored a Military ceremony in November at The Florida National Cemetery, the 2nd busiest Military cemetery in the nation with an average of 467 interments per month.
Bill and Jean rest in a Veteran's place of tribute and honor in the Cremation Garden of the 512 acre sanctuary.
The family extends an invitation to join them for A Celebration of Life of the family members...Bill and Jean Brown, Patrica Hays and Eileen Cole on Sunday, July 1, 1:00 pm at the Celina VFW Post 5713, 1118 W. Logan Street. In conclusion the Color Guard will honor Bill's WWII service.
