Paul Bergman
Paul Victor Bergman, age 90, Fort Loramie, Ohio, passed away of natural causes in the presence of his family at his home early Monday morning, June 25, 2018.
He was born November 17, 1927, in Fort Loramie, Ohio, to the late John and Claire (Schulze) Bergman. On February 20, 1954, at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sidney, Paul married Patricia (Scully) Bergman who preceded him in death on September 18, 2016.
Surviving are four children: Terri & Jeff Schlater of Sidney, Vicki & Mark Barhorst of Fort Loramie, Lisa & Don Reed of Fort Loramie and Jo & Scott Anderson of Celina; eight grandchildren: Josh & Marissa Goubeaux, Adam & Erin Barhorst, Kyle & Emily Goubeaux, Wes & Casey Rethman, Kacie Rethman, Ashley & Nate Barhorst, Courtney & Dave Paul and Brent & Madie Schlater along with 20 great-grandchildren; one sister, Ruth Roth of Celina and several sisters & brothers-in-law: Barbara Scully, Mike Scully, Marie & Hank Patterson, Paul "Butch" Scully, and Francie & John O'Leary, all of Sidney along with numerous nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by siblings: Luella & George Sommer, Urban & Tekla, Lester & Norma and LeRoy & Rita Bergman; brother-in-law, Ralph Roth; father & mother-in-law, Joseph & Madge (Shobe) Scully; brothers & sisters-in-law, John Scully and Sherry Scully.
Mr. Bergman was a WWII Veteran. He served in Japan with the US Army Company E, 35th Infantry Regiment. Paul was retired from Bergman Construction Corporation where he had been founder and president.
He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and previously served on the buildings and grounds committee. He was also a member of the Fort Loramie American Legion, Athletic Boosters and a founding member of the Gym Committee. Paul was an original stock holder of Arrowhead Park Golf Club in Minster and also belonged to the Celina Moose Lodge. He was a past member of the former Fort Loramie Kiwanis Club and Businessman Association.
Paul enjoyed golf, playing cards, woodworking, following his grandchildren's sporting events and interacting with his great-grandchildren. Paul also enjoyed spending winters in Florida with many friends he made throughout the years.
A Funeral Liturgy with Holy Communion will be celebrated 10:30 AM, Thursday, June 28, 2018, at St. Michael Church in Fort Loramie with Deacon Paul Timmerman presiding. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion on the church plaza immediately following services.
Friends may call today 3:00 to 8:00 PM and Thursday 9:00 to 10:00 AM at Gehret Funeral Home in Fort Loramie.
