James Rhodes
James "Jim" E. Rhodes, age 87, of Celina, Ohio, died August 3, 2018 at 9:10 pm at his home in Celina.
He was born September 27, 1930 in Indianapolis, Indiana, to the late Edger and Sylvia (Stelts) Rhodes. On June 6, 1952 he married Ruth E. Ellis, and she survives at the residence.
Other survivors include four daughters, Vickie (John) Sutter, Celina, Susan (Jerry) Downey, Celina, Deborah (Bill) Chittenden, Naples, Florida, and Stacy (Joe) Schwieterman, Celina; a sister, Kay (Dean) Shaffer, Celina; seven grandchildren, Josh, Jake, Chris, Matt, Tony, Bryan, and Joelle; and six great grandchildren, Zander, Tyler, Christian, Preston, Natalie, and Mackenzie.
Also preceded in death by a brother, Donald Rhodes; a sister, Dorothy Coats; and a grandson Ronnie Schwieterman.
Jim proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War era. He worked for Mersman Furniture Company in Celina for 30 plus years and went on to work at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Celina as a maintenance man for 18 additional years.
He is a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Celina, Mercer County Veterans Service Commission for 22 years, and Celina K of C Council 1800. Jim was a Life Member of Celina VFW Post #5713, and Celina American Legion Post #210; where he held all offices and spent 40 years as the finance officer.
Jim's favorite hobby was refinishing antique furniture and spending time with his family and friends.
Visitation hours will be from 3:00-7:00 pm, Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at Cisco Funeral Home in Celina; where a prayer service will be held by the Celina VFW and American Legion Members at 7:00 pm.
Mass of Christian burial and the celebration of his life will begin at 10:30 am on Wednesday, August 8, 2018, in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Celina, with Fr. Kenneth Schnipke C.PP.S., officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, from 9:30-10:15 am at Cisco Funeral Home, Celina. Burial will follow at St. Marys Catholic Cemetery, Celina, with military honors by Celina VFW Post #5713 and American Legion Post #210.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Immaculate Conception Endowment Fund, to benefit the church.
