The Minster boys and St. Henry girls completed their clean sweep of the Midwest Athletic Conference golf titles by winning their respective tournaments on Saturday.
At Arrowhead Golf Course, the Minster boys dominated their home course with a blistering round of 316, 26 strokes ahead of runner-up St. Henry and 41 strokes better than third-place Delphos St. John's.
The girls' tournament was held at the Mercer County Elks. St. Henry edged Versailles 393-397 to win the title trophy after having finished as regular season champs with an unbeaten mark in league play.
BOYS
The 316 was a season-best score for Minster, which went 9-0 in regular season league matches.
"It's a real testament to the work they put in during the offseason," said Jim Stubbs, who along with co-coach Lyle Sanvido earn Coach of the Year honors for guiding the Wildcats to the title. "I've got four juniors on the team and they all start. Three of them have played since they were freshmen."
After St. Henry and St. John's, Versailles (360) was fourth and Fort Recovery (380) rounded out the top five. The second five were New Knoxville (389), Marion Local (394), Parkway (397), Coldwater (404) and New Knoxville (416).
For the Minster boys, their biggest competitions was who would take the honors each match this season.
All six Wildcats who played on the tournament team finished in the top 20 in the season-long points chase towards Golfer of the Year honors.
In the end, Grant Voisard earned enough points to earn the conference's top honor after Saturday's 78.
"It's pretty cool," Voisard said. "I wasn't really expecting it. It's a lot cooler being MAC champions as a team."
While Voisard was the overall top player, teammate Grant Koenig, who golfed in the No. 4 spot, shot a 4-over 76 on his home course to take tournament medalist honors.
"We're out here all summer long practicing. It's like we live here," Koenig said. "It went really good."
Joseph Magoto, who shot an 80 to finish fourth behind St. Henry's Reed Koesters (79), was third in the Golfer of the Year points standings. Koenig was 10th with Ethan Lehmkuhl (82 on Saturday) taking 11th. Logan Lazier (86) was 18th in points while Jacob Wismsman (89) finished 20th in the points.
The rest of the tournament top 10 (ties included) were St. Henry's Jack Romer (82), St. John's Grant Csukker and Versailles' Connor VanSkyock (84), Fort Recovery's Grant Knapke and Carson Rammel and Lazier (86).
GIRLS
St. Henry coach Gary Broering had been waiting a long time for an MAC championship.
The wait ended on Saturday.
The Redskins held off Versailles 393-397 to secure their second MAC title in program history.
"I'm just thrilled because it's something I've wanted since I've been coaching, and we've actually been second three different times and third once," Broering said. "I thought maybe a couple of times that we'd end up being tied, but we didn't get there. But we finally got there and we won. It's an exciting feeling. It give the girls a lot of confidence going into sectionals and hopefully on down the line."
St. Henry had two first team All-MAC golfers in Ellen Naumann and Claire Clune, who finished Saturday with rounds of 94 and 100 respectively. The team also had two second-team honorees in Alana Siefring and Elizabeth Rockwell. Siefring shot a 99 in the tournament and Rockwell added a 107. St. Henry's Abby Gast was on the honorable mention team after shooting a 100 on Saturday. Calli Hemmelgarn added a 114.
New Bremen finished third at the tournament with a score of 400. Rounding out the standings were Coldwater and Parkway (tied with 414), Fort Recovery (441), Minster (442), St. John's (466) and Marion Local (490).
Minster's Taylor Homan was tournament medalist with an 87 and earned MAC Golfer of the Year honors. New Bremen's Sarah Parker (90) and Amy Balster (92) took silver and bronze at the tournament.
Other top finishers included St. Henry's Naumann (94), Parkway's Mecaylah Hesse (95), Versailles' Morgan Heitkamp (97), Coldwater's Emma Eckstein (97), Versailles' Morgan Barlage (98) and Versailles' Maddie Durham, Fort Recovery's Jayln Bruns and St. Henry's Siefring, all of whom tallied scores of 99.
