John Schmiesing
Rev. Deacon John J. Schmiesing age 88, of Minster, Ohio, died at 12:01 PM on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at Heritage Center, Minster.
He was born on March 22, 1930 in Minster to the late John & Rose (Sommer) Schmiesing. He married Alice Enneking on November 4, 1953 at St. Augustine Church Minster. She preceded him in death on October 1, 1997.
He is also survived children: Sam & Jane Schmiesing, New Bremen, Susan McDaniel, New Bremen, Phil & Robin Schmiesing, Enterprise, AL, Ken & Kathy Schmiesing, Celina, Mary & Mark Bornhorst, Minster, Dorothy & Steve Bruns, Minster, Therese & Rod Smith, Phoenix, AZ, Charles & Kathy Schmiesing, Columbus Grove, OH, Bonnie Trzaska, Minster, John & Jamie Schmiesing, Minster, Gary & Courtney Schmiesing, Eureka, CA, Martha & Steve Bohman, New Albany, 46 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, sister: Neoma Hoying, St. Henry, in-laws, Mary Schmiesing, Fort Loramie, Viona Schmiesing, Egypt.
He was preceded in death by son-in-law Steve Trzaska, great great child, special friend Irene Garman, brothers & sisters Estella (infant), Edna & John Enneking, Leonard & Helen Schmiesing, Walter & Gertrude Schmiesing, Edwin & Clara Schmiesing, Alma & Herbert Boerger, George Hoying, Cletus & Janet Schmiesing, Harvey Schmiesing.
John was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Minster, where he was an Ordained Deacon, lector, communion distributor, RCIA instructor, religion teacher, bereavement minister and hospital and nursing home visitor. He was a member of Minster Knights of Columbus, where he was a 4th Degree Knight and past Grand Knight and Chaplain and other offices. He was also a Grand Knight K of C Home Corp Board. John was a 1947 graduate of Minster High School, veteran of the Korean War, member of the Minster American Legion a member of the Shelby County Farm Bureau and a dairy farmer for 40 + years. He was a member of Auglaize County Board of Education and representative to the Tri Star Career Compact Advisory Council, Minster Local School Board and served as President for 2 years. He was Minster's Citizen of the year in 1994, Grand Marshall of the Minster Oktoberfest Parade in 1996, member of NAIM of the North, Minster F.O.E. #1391 and an active blood donor.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 AM on Thursday, November 15, 2018 at St. Augustine Church with Rev. Frankline Rayappa celebrant, burial with full military honors by Minster Honor Guard to follow in St. Augustine Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster from 2 PM to 8 PM on Wednesday, November 14, and Thursday from 9 AM to 9:30 AM.
In Lieu of Flowers the family requests donations be made to the Minster Scholarship Fund or the St. Augustine Church Organ Restoration Fund.
