Minster senior Jarod Schulze, seated center, will attend the University of Saint Francis and play basketball for the Cougars next season. Seated with Jarod are his parents Mike and Sandy Schulze. Standing is Minster head coach Michael McClurg.

MINSTER - From the first trip he took to Fort Wayne and the University of Saint Francis campus, Jarod Schulze knew it was the place for him.
The Minster senior basketball standout made it official on Tuesday by signing with the NAIA power that advanced to the national championship game last season.
"I was on campus about 8-9 times," said Schulze, who is looking to major in a science field. "Everybody was welcoming. It was a welcoming school. It's Catholic-oriented, which I really like because I'm from a small Catholic town. It's a small school with large-school aspects."
The Cougars are one of the top teams in NAIA basketball, advancing to the national final where they lost to another Hoosier State team in Indiana Wesleyan.
St. Francis is currently 5-4 on the season and 0-1 in Crossroads League play.
"They're willing to help you with anything," Schulze said of the coaching staff.
The 6-9 Schulze is a major presence in the paint for the Wildcats, leading the team with 12.4 points per game and second in rebounds at 7.7 per game last season. Schulze was one of the best field goal shooters, hitting 51.1 percent of his shots.
"Coming in as a freshman, I was a little uncoordinated," said Schulze. "Coach (Michael) McClurg helped out, coach (Curt) Albers helped out. I started to improve and started to get varsity time."
