The inside of Robert Huey's mobile home at 306 N. Main St. in Mendon shows the destruction left by a Tuesday afternoon fire.
MENDON - American Red Cross members are helping a Mendon resident after his mobile home was heavily damaged in a fire on Tuesday.
Owner Robert Huey arrived home at 306 N. Main St. to see his home ablaze, Mendon Fire Chief Darrell Etgen said. Huey reportedly called for help at 12:27 p.m.
Mendon and Rockford fire departments responded with 15 firefighters and two trucks, Etgen said. Upon arrival, they saw flames near the front of trailer coming through the windows and doors. No one was inside the trailer when they arrived, he added.
The fire had caused about $30,000 in damage by the time the flames were extinguished. The home was not insured, and the blaze destroyed Huey's personal belongings.
The American Red Cross was called in to provide services for Huey and help him find temporary housing, Etgen said.
The cause of the fire was not known by press time, but Etgen noted foul play is not suspected. The fire remains under investigation.
