Mercer County sets record for eighth year in a row

CELINA - Mercer County has set a sales tax record for the eighth consecutive year, thanks to a robust economy boosted by high consumer confidence, according to county auditor Randy Grapner.
"Our population is very optimistic about the way the economy is going, and they're out there spending their dollars locally," Grapner told the newspaper. [More]

COLDWATER - Coldwater Machine Co. officials recently announced the company has been acquired by Cleveland-based Lincoln Electric Holdings.

Local farmers, USDA employees play a waiting game during government shutdown
County Farm Service Agency offices in Celina and Wapakoneta remain closed due to the ongoing partial government shutdown, according to information from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Auglaize and Mercer County sheriff's deputies arrested two drivers for operating a vehicle while intoxicated during the holidays.
This shows "people are taking care of themselves and getting a designated driver," Auglaize County Sheriff Al Solomon told the newspaper.
