Karen Liss
Karen Liss (nee McAfee) passed away peacefully on January 17, 2019.
She is survived by her loving children, Eric Liss and Paula Hoste (Christopher), her adored Grandchildren, Wilson and Andy, and her many Granddogs. She was a loving sister to Marvin Kraig McAfee (Coralee) and a caring Sister-in-Law, Aunt, Great Aunt and Great-Great Aunt to many.
Karen lived a very full life. She was proud of her Celina, Ohio roots, and was a 1958 graduate of Celina High School. She moved to the "big city" of Cleveland in 1963, where she soon met her husband Paul by tripping him (after a friendly dare) while at Geneva-on-the-Lake.
While Karen and Paul enjoyed their fair share of disagreements, they also loved each other deeply and proudly celebrated almost 39 years of marriage before his passing in 2007. In their early years of marriage, and prior to having kids, Karen and Paul graciously cared for Paul's youngest brothers for a handful of years. It's been said that helping to care for the Uncles was good preparation for what she'd encounter raising wild children (and living with Paul).
While raising kids, Karen enjoyed camping, reading, sunbathing, sewing and vacationing with family. She was an accomplished sewist, and made many creative friends throughout her life. In the later years, virtually 100% of her wardrobe was "me-made", and nearly everyone she knew has received a handmade gift or two throughout the years.
Karen was a hard worker, having had successful administrative careers at both US Steel and Lakewood Public Schools. In her retirement, she enjoyed volunteering at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo and the Lakewood Community Service Center Food Bank. Karen touched many souls and hearts during her lifetime. While her stories could be long, they were loved by many.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo or the Lakewood Community Service Center Food Bank.
The family will receive friends on Monday January 21, 2019 from 3:00 until time of service at 7:00 pm at the Misencik Funeral Home, 12500 Madison Ave., Lakewood. Interment will be private.
