Elmer Wellman
Elmer E. Wellman, age 81, formerly of Coldwater, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at State of the Heart Hospice, in Greenville, Ohio.
He was born on June 25, 1937 to the late Raymond H and Regina M. (Froning) in Coldwater, Ohio. On June 7, 1958 he married his high school sweetheart, Jeanette (Boeckman) Wellman, and they were blessed with 61 wonderful years together.
Jeanette survives, along with their four children; Daniel L. & Sharon Wellman of Coldwater, Debra R. & James R. Ahrns Jr. of Centerville, Denise M. & David Huwer of St. Henry, and Dean J. & Sarah Wellman of Minster. Elmer is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, as well as in-laws; Bernice Wellman of Coldwater, Shirley & Dale Niekamp of Coldwater and Barb Wenning of Anna, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother Donald L. Wellman, a great grandson, Marcus Kahlig, and in-laws; Ruth & John Heckler, Louis Boeckman, Eugene Boeckman, Jerry & Ida Boeckman, and Ken Wenning.
Elmer was a 1955 graduate of Coldwater High School and attended Wright State University-Lake Campus. He attended Kroger's Meat Cutting School and was a meat cutter for the Kroger Co. and other area supermarkets. He was a retired Prudential Insurance Agent, and also retired from The Messenger Press Inc., in Carthagena, where he was the office manager, and treasurer. He served in the Army National Guard as a Supply Sergeant.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Coldwater, and its Holy Name Society. He was a volunteer and tour guide/historian at the former St. Charles Seminary in Carthagena. Elmer was also a member of the Companions, lay associates, of the Missionaries of the Precious Blood, and was a member of the Third Order of St. Francis. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Elmer was a prayerful Catholic, avid reader of Christian books, enjoyed classical music, an avid Sprint NASCAR fan, enjoyed looking at God's creations and loved spending time with his family and friends. He was a man with a great sense of humor and he will be deeply missed by family and friends.
Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, April 29, 2019 at 10:30 am at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Coldwater.
Friends may call from 1:00-5:00 pm on Sunday, April 28, and 9:00-10:00 am on Monday at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Coldwater.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, the family requests contributions may be made to the Society of the Precious Blood Mission Fund.
