Bennett Poeppelman practices writing his name in Japanese katakana during a Kid Connections workshop on Wednesday afternoon at the Immaculate Conception Parish Activity Center in Celina. Katakana is one of three Japanese alphabets and is used mainly for writing foreign words, such as the names of people and geographical places, that can't be written in kanji, another form of the alphabet.
