Woman still critical after ATV accident

CELINA - A woman remained in critical condition on Wednesday after a Tuesday accident in which a child who'd been riding on an all-terrain vehicle attempted to get off and instead hit the accelerator, according to a Mercer County Sheriff's Office news release.
Mary J. Stachler, 73, was transported to Mercer County Community Hospital, Coldwater, in critical condition on Tuesday, and was later transferred to Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton. A Miami Valley Hospital representative said on Wednesday afternoon that Stachler was still in critical condition.
According to the release, Carla Baucher, 28, was giving her two children a ride on a Polaris Ranger ATV at Stachler's home at 7515 Burrville Road. The release stated that Stachler is Baucher's husband's aunt.
Baucher's 21/2-year-old son reportedly tried get off the ATV and fell onto the accelerator. The ATV then struck Stachler and crashed into the garage area of the residence. Baucher and her son suffered minor injuries but were not treated.
Once the investigation is complete, the matter will be forwarded to the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office for review, according to the release.
