Burkettsville firefighters use a ladder with an attached hose to spray water onto a smoking silo at the Otte Dairy Farm, 195 Cassella-Montezuma Road, Marion Township, at 11:50 a.m. Wednesday. The silo was filled with the equivalent of 60 acres of Sudan grass used as cow feed. Farm part owner Rick Otte said he believes the Sudan grass spontaneously combusted inside the silo. Also responding were Chickasaw, North Star and Osgood firefighters. Osgood Fire Chief Frank Miller said the grain was still usable, and the fire caused about $3,000 in damage to the insured structure.
