Georgia tight end Eli Wolf (17) is tackled by Notre Dame's Jalen Elliott (21) during the first half of Saturday's game. Wolf, who came to Georgia as a graduate transfer from Tennessee, has been a key contributor for the third-ranked Bulldogs this season.
When No. 3 Georgia played No. 7 Notre Dame in prime time on Saturday night, it put a small-town kid from Minster on the big stage.
Minster graduate Eli Wolf had one catch for eight yards in the Bulldogs' 23-17 victory over the Fighting Irish at Sanford Stadium in Athens, Georgia.
More than 93,000 fans packed the stadium, and it was the most-viewed college football game on television this season. Jake Fromm's 15-yard touchdown pass to Lawrence Cager applied the winning score for Georgia, which improved to 4-0.
After graduating from Minster, Wolf walked on and earned a scholarship at Tennessee. He went to Georgia this year as a graduate transfer. Through four games with the Bulldogs, he has seven catches for 98 yards. He posted season-highs in receptions (four) and yards (73) in a Sept. 7 win over Murray State.
The Bulldogs are off this week before taking a trip back to Wolf's former school in Knoxville, Tennessee, for an SEC matchup on Oct. 5.
Murlin Making Major Impact
Sophomore linebacker Kole Murlin (Celina) has 19 tackles (one for loss) and a fumble recovery through three games for the Siena Heights Saints.
The defense is playing good, too, having allowed just 28 points this season, which includes a 6-0 victory over Robert Morris in Week 2.
The Saints are 3-0 heading into Saturday's noon home contest with Trinity International.
Hoying, Eagles Win Again
Brody Hoying (Coldwater) had six tackles, and the Eastern Michigan Eagles improved to 3-1 with a 34-29 win over Central Connecticut on Saturday.
The Eagles clinched the victory in dramatic fashion, too. Mathew Sexton returned a blocked punt 30 yards for the go-ahead touchdown with 10 seconds remaining in Eastern's home opener at Rynearson Stadium.
Hoying ranks third on the team in tackles with 26 while also adding 1 1/2 sacks and an interception.
Eastern visits Central Michigan at 3 p.m. on Saturday to open Mid-American Conference play.
2 'Riders Playing for
Mount St. Joes
St. Marys graduates Julius Fisher and Bo Kuenning both play defense for the Mount St. Joseph Lions, who are 2-0 after last weekend's 34-7 win over Anderson.
Fisher, a linebacker who was named one of the captains for Saturday's game with Anderson, ranks second on the team in tackles with 14. Kuenning, a defensive end, has one tackle in one appearance.
The Lions visit Franklin (Indiana) this Saturday for a 1:30 p.m. contest.
Wenning Enters
Senior Season
Senior Wes Wenning (Fort Recovery) has made one catch for two yards in three appearances for the Ashland University football team.
He snagged the pass in last week's 28-13 loss to second-ranked Ferris State, which dropped Ashland to 1-2 on the season.
The Eagles hit the road this weekend for Saturday's 1 p.m. game with Northwood.

Heights Spikers
Maddy Luebke (Celina) was a three-sport athlete in high school. She went to Siena Heights for softball, but decided to play a little volleyball, too. Luebke took part in a tryout and earned a spot on the team.

The Cougars are second in the Crossroads League standings behind fourth-ranked and unbeaten Indiana Wesleyan.

Erika Angstmann (St. Marys), Devon Heitkamp (New Bremen) and the University of Northwestern Ohio have won back-to-back five-set matches to run their season record to 13-5 overall and 3-1 in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play.
In Saturday's win over Cornerstone University, Angstmann had 25 kills and Heitkamp added eight. In Sunday's victory over Aquinas College, Angstmann again had a team-leading mark in kills with 23 and Heitkamp tallied 19 - helping the Racers improve to 9-1 in September.
Angstmann and Heitkamp lead the Racers in kills per set this season with impressive averages of 4.1 and 3, respectively.
Niekamp Solid for IT
Olivia Niekamp (St. Henry) had eight kills for Indiana Tech in a recent five-set loss to Aquinas.
But last week, Niekamp led Tech with 14 kills in a four-set win over Angstmann, Heitkamp and UNOH. Niekamp, who averages 2.88 kills per set, will see another Mercer-County-area face on Wednesday when Tech hosts Luebke and Siena Heights.
