MARIA STEIN - The original Wooden Shoe Brewing company in the mid-1930s was a booming outfit, cranking out tens of thousands of barrels of beer and generating enough taxes to run the entire town of Minster, according to author Timothy Gaffney.
The brewery also has a link to the modern Samuel Adams beer, he said. [More]

ANNA - Anna quarterback Bart Bixler and running back Riley Huelskamp were referred to as a two-headed monster by Coldwater coach Chip Otten leading up two Friday's game.
That duo was scary good against Coldwater.
Bixler accounted for five touchdowns (three rushing, two passing), while Huelskamp added a pair of scoring runs as the fifth-ranked Rockets stunned Division VI's top-ranked Cavaliers - and everybody else paying attention to the game - with a 49-8 victory at Booster Field. [More]

The Celina Lions Club Halloween parade will begin at 2:30 p.m. Oct. 27. Participants should line up by 2:15 p.m. for judging in the South Main Street Municipal Parking lot. The parade will travel down Main Street and conclude at the county parking lot behind the post office. Winners and prizes will be awarded at the end of the parade.
