Carl Spangler
Carl F. Spangler age 88 of St. Henry, passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2020 at Lima Memorial, Lima.
He was born November 7, 1931 in Portland, Indiana. He was then adopted by the late Frank & Emma (Fetters) Spangler. On April 22, 1961, in St. Joseph Church, Egypt, he married Velma (Dahlinghaus) Spangler and she survives in St. Henry.
He is also survived by children: Bruce & Patty Spangler of Coldwater, Mary Carla & Doug Campbell of Stow, and Marjorie & Chuck Good of St. Henry. Carl is also survived by 7 grandchildren, Bethany and Blake Spangler, Lauren and Trent Campbell, Ryan Good & fiancée Chloe Grube, and Kyle and Evan Good, a brother Jim & Margaret Minch of Bryant, IN, and in-laws: Betty & Melvin Bruggeman of McCartyville, David & Pat Dahlinghaus of Minster, Marcia Dahlinghaus of Golden Valley, AZ, Omer Bertke of Coldwater and Marlene Dahlinghaus of Maria Stein.
Carl is preceded in death by his parents, siblings Lucille & Charles Muhlenkamp, and Howard & Lillian Minch, and in-laws Rita Bertke, and Jim Dahlinghaus.
Carl was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church, The Heritage Club, and the Knights of Columbus. Carl lived a life of service. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving for 4 years during the Korean Conflict in the security service communication department. He later served 15 years on the St. Henry Emergency Squad, was a volunteer 4-H advisor, and was a member of the American Legion Post 648 in St. Henry.
He was an active volunteer at the Center for Neurological Development in Burkettsville from 1996 until his time of passing, as well as helped with the many Senior Citizens garage sales in Celina. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially during their family vacations; as well as playing cards and watching his grandchildren's sporting events and activities.
Due to the COVID-19 virus a private Mass of Christian Burial with military honors will be held on Friday May 8, 2020 at St. Henry Catholic Church. The funeral Mass will be live streamed for family and friends to view at sthenrycluster.com. Burial will follow in St. Henry Cemetery.
Arrangements are being handled by Hogenkamp Funeral Home in St. Henry.
