Jerome May
Jerome J. May, age 76, of St. Henry, passed away Thursday, June 4, 2020 at Miami Valley Hospital, in Dayton.
He was born March 9, 1944 in Celina, to the late Leo & Catherine (Braun) May. On November 30, 1963 he married Lou Ann (Pottkotter) May and she survives in St. Henry.
He will be dearly missed by children Thomas & Stacie May of St. Henry, Daniel May (dec.) and Michelle & Larry Dues of Celina, Christopher & Robin May of St. Henry, Karen May & fiancé Scott Stachler of Coldwater, Constance & Andy Stachler of St. Henry, Douglas May & fiancée Julie Schlarman of Ft. Recovery, Kathryn & Terry Selhorst of Coldwater, Tammy & Paul Kaiser of Troy. He was adored by his 22 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and angel Koy Evers.
His siblings are Rita & Jerry Pottkotter (both deceased), Bud May (dec.) & Rosie May, deceased infant sister Delores May, Jeanette & Ernie Homan (both dec.), Ralph & Marilyn May (both dec.), Howard & Donna May, Victor May (dec.), and Charline May, Ruth & (Lester Schoen dec.) and Henry Kunkler Jr., Walter & Irene May, and Jerry's twin brother Thomas May (dec.).
Jerry's in-laws are Albert & Marie Pottkotter (dec.), Ralph Pottkotter & Pat (dec.) Pottkotter, Henry & Rita Pottkotter, Mary & Mike Barga, Roger Pottkotter & friend Patti Simons, Donna & Mike Subler, Paul & Janet Pottkotter, and Cy & Darlene Pottkotter.
He was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church where he had served as an usher and parish council member. Jerry was a graduate from St. Henry High School, Class of 1962. He had served on the board of directors of the Mercer County Council on Aging. He was dedicated to the Mercer County Senior Center and was awarded the Senior Citizen Volunteer of the Year Award in 2012.
Jerry embraced life to the fullest and brought joy and fun to everyone he met. His nurturing and caring nature was evident not only by his love for his family, but also by his lifelong dedication to farming. What he enjoyed most about Western square dancing, playing cards, bowling, and volunteering, was the numerous lifelong friendships he made along the way.
A Mass of Christian Burial, open to the public, will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, June 8, 2020 at St. Henry Catholic Church, St. Henry. Burial will follow in St. Henry Cemetery.
Friends may call on Sunday, June 7, from 1:30 to 5:00 pm at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home in St. Henry.
In lieu of flowers and gifts the family requests donations to be made to the Cancer Association of Mercer County, CAMC.
