Cavaliers defeat Bulldogs

Coldwater collected 10 hits, five going for extra bases, in remaining unbeaten on the summer softball season with an 8-2 win over Celina on Thursday at Westview Park.
The Cavaliers (5-0) broke a 1-1 tie in the third inning when Grace Stammen scored on an error. Coldwater added two more runs in the fourth, single runs in the fifth and sixth and then two more in the seventh to close the game out.
Madison Wendel struck out 12 batters to pick up the win and also was 2-for-4 at the plate with a triple and home run. Claire Steinke went 2-for-3 with a home run.
Taylor Turner had two hits for Celina (0-1). Carly Hathaway added a double.
Coldwater hosts Parkway on Monday while Celina goes to Fort Recovery.

JUNIOR GOLF
St. Henry's Ellen Naumann shot a 4-under 68 to win the Lima Junior Golf Association's summer tour stop at Hickory Sticks in Van Wert on Thursday.
Naumann was nine strokes ahead of LCC golfers Emma Mayers and Bridget Mulcahy, who each shot 77, in the girls' 16-18 division. Minster's Layne Voisard was tied for third with an 84. Coldwater's Laney Finke was sixth with a 94 and St. Henry's Courtney Clune was eighth with a 100.
Coldwater's Jordan Hemmelgarn won the girls' 15-under division with a nine-hole score of 53.
  Fort Loramie's Adam Ballas won the boys' 16-18 division with a 2-under 70. Coldwater's Carson Muhlenkamp was tied for fourth with St. John's Jack Gerker with matching 75s. Minster's Joseph Magoto was fifth with a 76. St. Marys' Cole Koenig was eighth with a 79 with teammate Reese Sweigart shooting an 82 to tie for 10th. Coldwater's Hayden Beougher finished 13th with an 87. St. Marys' Calvin Caywood was 20th with a 96 and Kaden Boroff finishing 21st with a 100.
Minster's Louis Magoto was fourth in the boys' 14-15 division with a 91. Fort Recovery's Isaac LeFevre was seventh with a 104.
The next stop on the tour will be Tuesday at Colonial Golfers Club in Lima.
