Paul 'Red' Detwiler
Paul H. "Red" Detwiler, age 94, of Celina, passed away Sunday, July 12, 2020, at Briarwood Village in Coldwater.
Born September 26, 1925, in Elkhart, IN, he was a son of John & Fern (Stutsman) Detwiler. Red married Elaine M. Mottice on October 6, 1946, and she preceded him in death April 30, 2016.
Red and Elaine were married for almost 70 years, and he lovingly cared for Elaine at their home for the last eight years of her life.
He is survived by their daughter and son: Diane (Ron) Seibert of St. Marys and Scott (Annette) Detwiler of Bloomington, IL, grandchildren: Christopher (Cary) Seibert, Brian Seibert and Kimmy Detwiler, and great grandchildren: Madeline, Nicholas and Alexander Seibert. Also surviving are a brother and two sisters: Fred (Pat) Detwiler of Warsaw, IN, Mary (Don) Reinhardt of Goshen, IN and Becky (George) Erwin of Bourbon, IN.
Red was preceded in death by brothers & sisters: John Detwiler, Sarah Gross, Ruby Hershberger, Pearl Reid and Janet Roderick.
A graduate of Purdue University, Red held a Bachelor's Degree in Agricultural Engineering. Red and his wife Elaine met while students at Purdue, and they were lifelong supporters of Purdue Football and Basketball. Red was also an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs, and enjoyed model trains.
Red had worked in agricultural sales for Wayne Feeds, and at Pax Steel Products in Coldwater. Currently, a member of the Coldwater United Methodist Church, Red was also a minister, and had founded the former Celina Community Church, where he started a food pantry in the 1970's. He had been a member of the Celina Jaycees, and was also active with the Celina Rotary Club, serving as a state officer.
Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 Noon, Thursday, July 16, at W.H. Dick &Sons-Hellwarth Funeral Home in Celina, with Pastor Dave Porath, officiating. Burial will follow at Mercer Memory Gardens, Celina.
Calling Hours are before the Services on Thursday, from 11:00 A.M. to Noon, at the Funeral Home.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Coldwater United Methodist Church.
Attendees at the visitation and funeral are asked to please practice social distancing, and follow the COVID-19 guidelines established by the Ohio Department of Health and Governor DeWine.
