Maurice Cron
Maurice (Mauri) Cron, age 84, passed away July 24 at Miami Valley Hospital due to complications from coronavirus.
He was born May 29, 1936 to Arnold and Celia Cron. In 1957, he married Dolores Homan Cron and they have five children: Joyce Cron (Tim) Wessling, Keith (Carol) Cron, Laura Cron Gladden, Joseph dec. (Patti) Cron and Russell (Lisa) Cron. They also have fifteen grandchildren: Neil, Mei, Matt, Maureen, Maggie, Mary Claire, Will, Kyle, Brian, Jacob, Courtney, Mitchell, Lucas, Nolan, Dylan and two great grandchildren: Jack and Rosemary.
He is survived by his sister, Mary E. Eyink and in-laws: Connie Cron, Judy (Chuck) Cron, Mary Ann (Maurice) Harting, Lester Stammen and Dorothy (Dan) Eifert.
He is preceded in death by his parents, son Joseph, siblings Carl, Lester, Janet, mother and father in-law Lawrence & Mary Homan, in-laws: Ernie Eyink, Othmar & Rita Homan, Leonard & Alice Homan, Irene & Roger Will and Viola Stammen.
Mauri was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, a lector for many years and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He served in the United States Army in 1955 & 1956. Mauri was a Nationwide Insurance agent for 42 years. He played for the Cincinnati Reds minor league baseball team in 1957 & 1958. He was a sports enthusiast his entire life and supported many teams: Coldwater Cavaliers, Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Browns and Cincinnati Reds. He enjoyed golf with his family and friends. He followed local school sports and was diligent in keeping stats. He completed the Columbus Marathon in 1985.
His true love and joy was his family. He never missed an opportunity to spend time with his children and grandchildren. He especially cherished following and attending their many activities. Mauri was very civic minded. He served as Mayor for the Village of Coldwater for 20 years. He was a past president of Ohio Mayors Association, past president of Ohio Municipal League, past president and a 20 year board member of Auglaize/Mercer Counties Family YMCA. He was active with the Jaycees, serving in many office positions. He was also very involved in Kiwanis. He held many local chapter offices and was Kiwanis Governor for the State of Ohio in 2004 & 2005.
He was a member of the American Legion, Eagles and Mercer County Elks. He was a life-long member of the Mercer County Democratic party. Currently he was president of Mercer County PERI Chapter 13, and serving as president of Mercer County Civic Foundation.
Due to COVID-19 concerns, a Mass of Christian Burial will be private on July 30, 2020 at Holy Trinity Church with no public viewing, Fr. Richard Walling officiating. Mass is at 2:00 pm. Livestream will be at http://coldwatercluster.org/content/helpful-links-watch-mass-online. Burial will follow in St. Elizabeth Cemetery. Hogenkamp Funeral Home Coldwater is handling arrangements.
