Brackets set for tourney

Area teams found out who they will be facing as the 2020 Ohio high school football playoff brackets were released by the Ohio High School Athletic Association on Thursday afternoon.
Due to the pandemic, all teams were eligible to take part in the playoffs.
Celina, seeded 14th will host its first-ever playoff game as the Bulldogs open the Division III Region 12 playoffs against Dayton Carroll (1-4) next Friday at 7 p.m. The winner moves on play Trotwood-Madison on Oct. 16 in Trotwood.
St. Marys, the eighth seed in Region 12, hosts Greenville next Friday. The winner takes on the winner of Franklin and Vandalia-Butler at the higher remaining seed on Oct. 16.
Also in Region 12, WBL rivals Wapakoneta and Shawnee will face each other next Friday in an opening round game in Shawnee Township. Elida hosts Monroe next Friday. In Division III Region 10, Defiance travels to Bay Village Bay next Friday for an opening-round game.
In Division VI Region 24, Coldwater was voted the top seed and earned a first-round bye. The Cavaliers host the winner on National Trail and Triad on Oct. 17 at Cavalier Stadium.
Fort Recovery also earned a bye as the eighth seed and hosts Fairbanks on Oct. 17. Minster was voted the 11th seed and hosts Delphos Jefferson next Saturday. Parkway, the 19th seed, travels to Elmwood Place in Hamilton County next Saturday. Anna, seeded 19th, hosts Miami East on Oct. 10.
Defending Division VII state champion Marion Local was voted the top seed in Region 28 and has a week off before hosting the winner of next Friday's game between Cedarville and Mississinawa Valley on Oct. 16.
New Bremen was voted the third seed and has a bye. The Cardinals host the winner of Lehman and Southeastern on Oct. 16. St. Henry was voted the eighth seed and plays Grove City Christian on Oct. 16.
In other games of interest in the MAC and WBL:
Division IV Region 14: Kenton was voted the eighth seed and hosts the winner of Ontario and Vermilion on Oct. 17. Fifth-seeded Van Wert faces the winner of Port Clinton and Sandusky Perkins on Oct. 17 at Eggerss Stadium.
Division V Region 18: Ottawa-Glandorf was voted the third seed and hosts the winner of Orrville and Fairview Park Fairview on Oct. 17. Bath, the 11th seed, hosts Swanton next Friday with the winner traveling to West Salem Northwestern on Oct. 17.
Division V Region 20: Versailles was voted the fourth seed and hosts the winner of Preble Shawnee and Clermont Northeastern on Oct. 17.
Division VII Region 26: Delphos St. John's, the 16th seed, hosts Hardin Northern next Friday with the winner taking on top-seeded Lima Central Catholic on Oct. 16.
All games will start at 7 p.m.

St. Henry High School has COVID outbreak
The fourth death in three days from COVID-19 was reported Thursday in Auglaize County raising that county's total to 14 and Mercer County reported its 18th death. [More]

WAPAKONETA - If the volume of calls at the Auglaize County Board of Elections is any indication, the county will see a big turnout for early voting this election, director Michelle Wilcox said.
FORT RECOVERY - Jim Bretz of Union City, Indiana, took a break from setting up his stand to reflect on the good experiences he's had over the last 10 or so years selling chainsaws, lawn equipment and a little bit of everything else at the Traders Day festival at 740 St. Peter Road.
Celina claims WBL victory over Defiance
CELINA - Celina defeated Western Buckeye League foe Defiance 25-11, 25-12, 28-26 in volleyball action Thursday at the Celina Intermediate School.

The Minster boys golf team advanced to the Division III district tournament after finishing third at the sectional Thursday at Colonial Golfers Club outside Lima.
