Jo Ann Shaffer
Jo Ann (Roettger) Shaffer, age 89, of Celina, Ohio passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 19, 2020, at her home.
She was born on January 28, 1931 in Celina to the late Dow W. and Ruth N. (Staeger) Roettger. On June 6, 1953, she married Leo J. (Butch) Shaffer of Rockford, Ohio, who left this Earth too soon on October 21, 1982.
She is survived by their three daughters and sons-in-law, Traci and Michael Robbins of Celina, OH, Julie and Gary Evers of Kettering, OH and Nicola (Nicki) and Steve Dippold of Springboro, OH. Also surviving are her seven grandchildren, the true joys of her life. They include grandsons Bryan Robbins, Cincinnati, OH, Dillon Robbins, Celina, OH, Eric Evers (Kate Stokell), Cincinnati, OH and Alex Evers, Beavercreek, OH and granddaughters Sarah (Dippold) and Andrew Siegler, Springboro, OH, Emily Dippold, Miamisburg, OH and Meghan Evers, Minneapolis, MN. Excited to finally become a great-grandmother in 2017, 'Gigi's' babies, Eloise, Reese and Gabriel Siegler brought her much happiness.
Her first-born grandson, Adam Robbins, was waiting for her at Heaven's gate. Jo Ann was also preceded in death by her brothers Dow Roettger Jr., William Roettger, and her sister and brother-in-law Carolyn Sue (Roettger) and William Lauderman, and dear friend Richard Mosier.
Sister-in-law Patricia (Bruce) Roettger, Frankfurt, IN, and sister-in-law and brother-in-law Martha (Sis) and Jon Sidenbender, Rockford, OH, also survive.
Jo Ann graduated from Celina High School with the Class of 1949, where she excelled at music. She was a fierce friend of many, but none so more than the ladies of 'Girls Club', who met monthly for almost sixty years.
Over the years, Jo Ann was most notably employed by Gibbons Hospital, until its closure, and Citizens Commercial Bank, from which she retired in 1993. A member of Grand Lake UMC, over the years she sang in various choirs and shared her love and gift of sewing by creating banners to hang in the Sanctuary.
She put others before herself, often caring for aging family members and friends. But most importantly, she loved her family unconditionally and will be eternally missed.
Private family services will be held on Monday, December 28, 2020 at the Lehman Dzendzel Funeral Home, with Pastor Matt Overman officiating. Jo Ann will be laid beside her husband and grandson in Mercer Memory Gardens, Celina, OH.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorial contributions can be made to either the State of the Heart Hospice who provided such loving caring to her in her final days, or Grand Lake United Methodist Church.
Condolences may be shared with the Shaffer family on-line at LehmanDzendzelFH.com.
