Ursula Wachauf
Ursula C. Wachauf, 99, of rural St. Marys, OH passed away Saturday, January 2, 2021 at Otterbein-Cridersville.
She was born December 5, 1921 in Rhine, OH to Peter and Alvina (Grieve) Steinke. On June 10, 1943 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Rhine, she married Emil J. Wachauf, who passed away June 27, 2001.
Survivors include: son John (Barbara) Wachauf; 3 grandsons: Craig (Renee) Wachauf, Sean (Tegan) Wachauf, Eric (Andrea) Wachauf; 1 great-granddaughter Harper Wachauf; sister Rosella Naseman; 3 brothers: Bernard Steinke, Paul (Sue) Schaub, James (Bea) Schaub.
She was preceded in death by her parents Peter and Alvina Steinke; husband Emil Wachauf; step-father Franklin Schaub, Sr.; 4 brothers: Sylvester Steinke, Franklin Schaub, Jr., Dave Schaub, Dan Schaub; 2 sisters: Roberta Hemmert, Sylvia Schneider; three infant siblings; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Ursula was a homemaker and assisted her husband in operation of the family dairy farm in Noble Twp.-Auglaize Co. She was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church and its Altar-Rosary Sodality, Legion of Mary, and helped with various projects at the church.
Some of her favorite pastimes included quilting, sewing, playing cards, gardening, putting together 1,000-piece jigsaw puzzles and spending time with her family. She was known for her delicious homemade applesauce and mashed potatoes.
Ursula dearly loved her son, John, and daughter-in-law, Barb, very much, often stating that "she didn't know what she would do without them." She cherished her grandsons Craig, Sean and Eric who she said "turned out to be such nice young men." Her great-granddaughter, Harper, held a special place in her heart and she loved watching her grow. She considered this little girl to be the sweetest thing!
Ursula will remain in our hearts and live in our memories forever.
Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. on Friday January 8, 2021 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, with the Rev. Alexander Witt, celebrant. Burial will follow at the Gethsemane Catholic Cemetery in St. Marys.
Visitation 9:30 a.m.-10:45 a.m. on Friday at the church.
