Patricia Peters
Patricia Peters, 84, of Coldwater, Ohio passed away at Briarwood Village on January 6, 2021. She was born on December 28, 1936 to the late Lowell and Helen (Slaybaugh) Gindelberger of South Bend, IN.
Patricia or 'Pat' as everyone called her, was one of 4 children, and grew up in a Christian home. Both of her parents were very active in the local Methodist Church and family gatherings often involved hymn singing.
After graduating from high school Pat attended Parkview Methodist School of Nursing and received a degree as a registered nurse. There she met Leroy who was working as a nurse's aide and they married on April 20,1958. Early in their marriage, she strongly encouraged Leroy to get a 4 year degree. Leroy ended up graduating in Agriculture Engineering from Purdue while she worked nights as a nurse putting him through school. This became a life changing event for the couple as there were so many more jobs opportunities available as a result.
Pat worked initially at the Indiana State Soldiers Home in West Lafayette, IN. They moved a few more times before buying a farm outside of Coldwater, OH. She then worked at Briarwood Manor as it was formerly known, in Coldwater for almost 30 years, caring for the elderly. Pat worked as a nurse for almost 50 years, often part-time as she raised her family.
Living on the farm was tough financially but Pat was good at pinching pennies; she made clothes for her family when they were young, grew a large vegetable garden and put up the produce. In later years, Pat received training and became one of the Master Gardeners for Mercer County.
Pat became adept at helping Leroy on the farm by driving the tractor and pulling wagons, managing the books for the farm and home, and always helping out in various ways with planting and harvesting. Leroy and Pat were married for 62 years.
She quietly but faithfully served her Lord and sought Him regularly. Pat was active in the Coldwater Methodist Church; helping with ice cream socials and spaghetti dinners, teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School classes, etc. She regularly visited shut-ins, bringing them homemade bread or produce.
Pat developed heart problems and dementia in her old age. She will be greatly missed by her family.
Pat leaves behind her sister Nancy Smith, husband Leroy Peters; 3 children; Cheryl Gibson (Michael) of Lynchburg, VA, Randy Peters of Charlotte, NC and Karen Hobbs (Brian) of Cherry Hill, NJ; and 5 grandchildren; Carlie Peters, Mike Gibson, Will Gibson, Daniel Gibson, and Susan Gibson.
Pat was preceded in death by her sister Sue Sedgwick and brother Ken Gindelberger.
