Jimmy Slone
Jimmy E. Slone of St. Marys, OH went home to the lord on Thursday, January 28, 2021 at the age of 67.
Jimmy's larger-than-life personality and one of a kind stories will surely be missed but never forgotten.
He was born on September 9, 1953 in Pippa Passes, Kentucky. Jimmy was the son of the late Amos and Cloia (Slone) Slone. He is survived by his loving wife, at home, Pauline (Thornsberry) Slone. They were excited to celebrate their upcoming 50th year wedding anniversary on November 13th.
Jimmy will be deeply missed by his children Benjy (Bretta) Slone of St. Marys, OH and Amy Slife of St. Marys, OH. Jimmy was the beloved grandfather of 7, which include Ryan Douglas, Houston Slone, Matthew (Jennifer) Douglas, Jessica Slone, Danielle (Josh) Bailey, Macy Slone, and Reagan Slife. He was the great-grandfather of 3 which include Kolten, Dallas, and Harper. He is survived by his siblings: Betty Sexton of Garrett, KY; Ivon Slone of Hermiston, OR; Phyllis Christian of St. Marys, OH; Kathy (Denny) Wurster of Spencerville, OH; Judy Skeens of St. Marys, OH; Deb (Sean) Stephens of St. Marys, OH; and Stacey (Roger) Smith of St. Marys, OH.
Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Jessie Allen and Tammy Mabry, and his brother, Quinton Slone.
Affectionately known as "Uncle Jimmy" or the self-proclaimed "Godfather of Rabbit Town" by his family and many friends, he was a man of God and never met a stranger. He could be found playing just about any instrument with strings, but he especially loved his guitar and banjo. His neighbors knew when it was spring because he would be out on the front porch pickin' and singin' or in the backyard teaching the neighbor kids how to box.
Jimmy found his passion working in nursing homes most of his life. He loved preaching and singing for his residents. He was proud of his work and always said "you never know, I could be the last person to make someone smile." He had a heart of gold and it radiated through to everyone he knew. Jimmy not only had a passion for his music and work, but he also loved coon hunting, wheelin' and dealin' at Trader Days, fishing, collecting guns and knives, and writing poetry.
Funeral rites will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, February 2, 2021, at the Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, St. Marys, Ohio, Pastor Bob Warren, officiant. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery.
