6-0 Junior Guard
12.3 PPG, 3.9 Rebounds, 1.3 Assists
Gels certainly earned the title "Mr. Clutch" for St. Henry this season.
Five times this season, the junior guard either hit baskets to win games in the final seconds, put St. Henry ahead late or send games into overtime.
Gels had game-winning buckets in back-to-back Friday night games in helping the Redskins defeat St. Marys and Marion Local, hit a shot to force a second overtime against Anna, scored the final points in a regular season win over Fort Recovery and then forced overtime with a basket in the district semifinals against Perry.
On a team where a number of players could put up points on any given night, Gels was one of the most consistent. Only seven times in 26 games was he unable to reach double figures. Gels only saw short stretches off the court, averaging 25 minutes per game, including never leaving the floor against Perry in a double-OT win and playing 37 of 40 minutes against Anna. Gels played 28 or more minutes in 10 games this season, was a first-team All-MAC selection and earned All-District honors.
