Austin Parks
St. Marys
6-10 Sophomore Center
14.1 PPG, 7.3 Rebounds, 2.0 Steals
The progression of Austin Parks showed in his second year of varsity basketball.
After averaging 9.3 points and 6.2 rebounds per game as a freshman, The center became a leader on the team in his sophomore season, sharing the team scoring lead with teammate LeTrey Williams with 14.1 points to go along with a team-best 7.3 rebounds per game.
Parks was a notable presence that other teams worked hard to contain, either with double teams or playing a tightly-compacted zone that hampered the Roughriders' ability to get the ball into him. Thanks to solid outside shooting from teammates Jadin Davis and LeTrey Williams, teams were forced to eventually play a more straight-up defense, allowing Parks to get big baskets and to also get some motivating dunks. Parks shot 57.8% from the field during the season.
The play of Parks and the Roughriders allowed the team to reach the Division II district final, losing to eventual state semifinalist Shawnee for the second time this season.
Parks was a third-team All-Western Buckeye League selection and was named to the honorable mention at the All-District selection meeting.
