Alan McCall
Alan Stewart McCall passed away peacefully on May 16, 2021, at his home in Falls Church, Virginia.
Born April 8, 1940, in Cleveland, Ohio, he was the youngest son of Alexander Stewart McCall and Mary Watson McCall.
Alan attended Wittenberg University on a basketball scholarship. After earning his PhD in Economics from the University of Kentucky, he joined the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) in Washington D.C. where he served as a Senior Financial Economist and Chief, Bank Regulation and Federal Legislation Section. Alan published numerous articles in finance and banking journals, testified before Congress, and taught at the George Washington University and the University of Kentucky.
An avid car and sports enthusiast, Alan developed a lifelong love of the water and the limestone cliffs of Barrow Bay, Canada, during the many summers he spent at his family cottage there. In his retirement years, he found particular joy in doting on his twin grandchildren, Graham and Julia.
Alan is survived by his wife Mary Jane (Anderson) McCall; his son, Alexander Stewart McCall, daughter-in-law Lauren McCall, and grandchildren of Potomac Falls, Virginia. He is also survived by brothers Neil McCall (Elaine) and Brian McCall (Carol) and by brother-in-law Michael J. Anderson and sister-in-law Cecelia Carvalho, both of St. Marys, and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, May 21 at 11:00 am at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in St. Marys, Ohio, where Alan and Mary Jane were married 47 years ago. Father Alexander Witt will celebrate the funeral mass, and burial will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery, Saint Marys.
Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M., prior to Mass.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Alan's honor to either the Gonzaga College High School Scholarship Fund, 19 Eye Street, Washington, D.C. 20001, or the Father McKenna Center, 19 Eye Street NW, Washington, D.C. 20001.
