Marvel Stetler
Marvel Mae Stetler passed away June 18, 2021, at the Laurels of Shane Hill where she was a resident.
She was born May 12, 1939, in Van Wert County to the late August and Charlotte (Shutt) Etzler. While attending Lima Memorial School of Nursing, she became pen pals with an Army soldier in Europe, and through those exchanges, she met the love of her life Donald "Butch" Stetler and married him on April 29, 1960.
Together they enjoyed over 40 years of marriage until Butch's death in January of 2003.
They had three children: Steven (Dawn) Stetler of Dayton, Ohio, Debra (Mike) Lowry of Wapakoneta, Ohio, and Timothy (Lisa) Stetler of Rockford, Ohio. Surviving in addition to her children are a brother and sister-in-law, Lowell (Pat) Etzler of Greenwich, Ohio, and her sister Marilee Etzler of Convoy, Ohio, brother- and sisters-in-law Ron (Hope) Stetler and Joan Stetler, as well as 6 granddaughters, 1 grandson, 7 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death are a brother Lowayne, brothers- and sister-in-law Sue (Al) Heitkamp and Dick Stetler, and a great grandson Carter Honious.
Marvel truly enjoyed her family and loved spending time with her grandchildren. At a surprise celebration for her 82nd birthday, she was thrilled to finally meet her 2 newest great-grandchildren born in 2020. Marvel would often crochet daily, and if you were fortunate enough to have received one of her afghans, consider yourself truly blessed.
She was a resident of Rockford for many years, as well as a registered nurse in the area for over 50 years. She carried an infectious laugh and caring heart everywhere she went.
For individuals wishing to do so, memorial donations in Marvel's honor may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
Services will be held at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home in Rockford, Ohio. Visitation will be 6-8 PM on Tuesday, June 22, 2021, and 1-3 PM on Wednesday, June 23, 2021, with the funeral service immediately following.
